Fact is, a golf umbrella is not the same as a regular umbrella! Yes they both stop the rain, but a golf umbrella also has to be strong enough to not break in strong winds, it has to be easy enough to put aside while taking your shot and it needs to be light enough that it does not feel like a burden to carry. Secondly, size matters! A regular umbrella will usually be large enough to cover just enough of your body to keep you dry. A golf umbrella tends to be a little larger so that you can also carry your golf bag. Making an umbrella a little larger also results in it catching more wind, making the technology that umbrella manufacturers use that much more important. So if you’re looking for the best golf umbrella in 2021, here are my choices:
1. Shedrain Vortex Vent Golf Umbrella
The Shedrain Vortex Golf Umbrella checks all the boxes when it comes to keeping golfers dry.
Construction
The vortex is made to break winds. It has a double canopy that allows wind to pass through while keeping you dry, hence the name “Vortex Vent”. This canopy is held together by what is known as a “bungee” cord. Shedrain have engineered this umbrella with a FRP fiberglass shaft, anti-inversion struts and energy-absorbing shocks on every rib. The Shedrain Vortex is everything I could wish for in a golf umbrella. Furthermore, this umbrella is fitted with a high-quality thermoplastic rubber grip that is comfortable to hold, but will also fit on a golf trolley cart.
Operation
This umbrella is large, but light-weight. Its manual open function is satisfying to say the least, it pops right open, no funny business here. It is important to rely on your gear when you’re caught in the rain. This umbrella has not ever let me down before.
Bottomline
This is pretty much the ultimate golf umbrella. It not only meets all expectations, it exceeds them in every way. Its larger, more comfortable and more durable than any other umbrella I’ve ever used. The only thing you should consider is the color options and overall availability of the umbrella. Furthermore, for ladies or youngsters, this umbrella might be a little on the heavy side.
- Modern Technology
- Double Canopy
- Anti-lightning
- Ergonomic Grip
- Large Coverage
- Heavy to carry and handle
2. Gust Buster Pro series 62 inch
The Gustbuster is my favorite option here. There is little wrong with this golf umbrella, it is considered the industry standard golf umbrella.
Construction
Much like the Shedrain Vortex, this also comes with a double canopy. This allows the “Gust buster” to live up to its name, but is also able to keep you dry at the same time. The frame is made from a high-quality fiberglass ensuring durability and strength, furthermore it is dubbed to be “lightning resistant” (something I have not yet tested first-hand). The umbrella top is made of a luxurious nylon that feels and looks like it will last at least a decade of storms. The rubber grip is ergonomic and comfortable to hold. The diameter of this umbrella is 62”, meaning its slightly smaller than the 68” Shedrain Vortex, do not get me wrong, this is not a small umbrella. Fact is, due to its smaller size, it is considerably lighter than the larger golf umbrellas on the market. Simply something to consider when making your purchasing decision.
Operation
This golf umbrella operates just like it should, its light-weight, nimble, comfortable and is very easy to open.
Bottom line
If you’re looking for an umbrella that ticks all the boxes, the Gust Buster won’t let you down. The only thing you need to consider is the size. I personally did not mind the smaller 62” umbrella. It fit well in my hand and worked well with my golf trolley.
- Modern Technology
- Double Canopy
- Anti-lightning
- Ergonomic Grip
- Smaller Coverage
3. G4Free 62inch Wooden J Handle Golf Umbrella
This was an impulse buy for me when I just needed a great all round umbrella. I came across this umbrella and it immediately looked like a simple umbrella that feels more luxurious than my other umbrellas.
Construction
Immediately, you’ll notice this umbrella looks more luxurious than sporty or durable. This makes it a great umbrella for every-day use. No large golf brand logos or bright colors. I’ve used this umbrella while shopping in the city or going out for dinner. The handle gives this umbrella a great distinguished look. The “J” shaped handle is made of wood and allows you to use this umbrella as a cane as well. Additionally, the shaft is longer than regular umbrellas and is made from a high quality fiberglass, which also makes it feel durable. The Umbrella top is not made of nylon, rather a 210T high density pongee cloth. To me, this is what makes it look and feel more like a luxury item than a utility item. This umbrella also comes with a double canopy that will break winds and keep you dry. This seems to be the norm for golf umbrellas in 2021 onwards.
Operation
This umbrella operates like a typical umbrella but has the benefits of a professional golf umbrella. Making it hit the sweet-spot between design and function.
Bottomline
If you think investing in a golf umbrella is overkill (because you don’t play golf as frequently as you would like), then this umbrella is perfect for you. You can easily use this umbrella for every occasion.
- Luxury Materials
- Double Canopy
- Longer Shaft (can be used as a cane)
- J-shaped Handle
- Less durable than professional golf umbrellas
