How to Hit a Golf Ball For Beginners – A Detailed Guide

January 8, 2020 By Adam Stanley

Are you a newbie in golfing and are confused about how to hit the ball properly?
Does every missed hit seem to increase your anxiety while playing?
Does the overloaded information on the internet have done you no benefit?

Well, we have a solution to your problems. You may find several many articles on the perfect golf ball hitting tips so you can hit the ball accurately. But retaining all those in your mind while playing seems an impossible task.

In golf, the most difficult or scary part is to learn how to hit the ball correctly into the hole. Though you may learn this after a lot of practice there are certain key points you must follow to achieve this skill.

How to Hit a Golf Ball For Beginners

So following are some advice you must apply in order to hit that golf ball perfectly and getting that fear of missed hit out of your head.

Proper Stance:

This is the most important and fundamental thing to look for while you aim to hit the golf ball. If you don’t have a proper stance than your whole hitting the ball will be affected and you will not be able to hit it properly.

The standard golf stance is to stand as your feet are open wider than your shoulders and is parallel to your target line. And if you are near the hole than the correct stance will be to stand with feet open narrower than the shoulders.

Your lead foot i.e. the one which is closer to the target must point slightly toward the direction in which you are going to swing.

Correct Posture:

Another important thing to look for while you are hitting the golf ball is to see that your posture is correct. The posture that would be suited best for proper ball hitting is to slightly bend your knees shifting most of your body weight on the balls of your feet. Now hinge your hips enough so that the club in your hand reaches the ground.

You must keep your spine at an angle that it would be diagonal to the ground. The body must be tilted like you are leaning slightly away from the target. This kind of posture helps in full hips and shoulders turning while you swing back.

Get the perfect Grip:

It is also one of the fundamental aspects you must give attention to. The grip is the only connection of your hand to the club and the ball. So for a starting point in you can go for a neutral grip.

So to get that kind of grip you must keep your lead hand towards the top of the club keeping your palm half-inch from the butt of the club. While you grip the club in your hand the angle between your hand fingers and the club must be diagonal.

Then over your lead hand place your trail hand such that its index finger and thumbs form a V that points directly toward your sternum.

Addressing the Ball:

So now after you have a perfect stance and stand in the correct posture for hitting the ball with strong and accurate grip on the club comes the last and most important part i.e. how would you address or hit the ball with your club.

Hitting or addressing the ball depends on which kind of club you are using to do so. Like if you are using the shorter clubs, the handle and shaft of the club will be slightly tilted towards the target while in case of longer clubs your hands must line up directly with the club with the ball being closer to your lead foot.

The posture and stance also depend on the type of club you are using for addressing the ball.

Conclusion

So these are some of the most important and basic points you can easily keep in mind while you are gearing up to hit the golf ball. All these factors play a vital role in your performance and not choosing any one of them correctly may cause you to miss the hole or miss-hit the ball while playing golf. Continuously practising this common advice will enhance your game and you will grow to be a successful golfer.
